River Khwae Bridge, Kanchanaburi, Travil Thailand.

At the end of 2022, I traveled to Kanchanaburi. River Khwae Bridge is yet another important historical site in Thailand.

This bridge is a famous landmark, a memorial, and a significant WWII historical location. Visitors can cross this 300-meter-long bridge on foot to reach the other side.

Tourists can stroll while capturing images of the river view and surrounding natural beauty. The bridge will have trains passing by, so be careful.

History of the River Khwae Bridge

This bridge is important in the history of the world because it is the route of the Thonburi-Namtok railway line.

The bridge was constructed during the Second World War, also known as the Great East Asia War.

Japanese troops were stationed in Thailand as a result of Japan’s declaration of war against the Allies during this conflict.

To attack British Burma and Malaya, the Japanese ambassador asked the Thai government to permit Japanese troops to march through Thailand.

Numerous allied prisoners of war gave their labor and their lives to build the railroad tracks. The bridge is divided into 11 concrete columns,

and Thanbu Sayak, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, is where the railroad line ends. The bridge suffered severe damage from Allied air raids during World War II,

which led to Japan’s defeat on August 15, 1945, and the collapse of the bridge. The Thai government then paid 50 million baht to purchase the railway from England and repair it so that it could once again be used.
